Krzysztof Pawłowski, Ph. D.
Alumnus of the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University, received his Ph.D. in physics from Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza [Academy of Mining and Metallurgy] in Cracow and an honorary doctorate from National - Louis University (Chicago, USA).

In the years from 1969 to 1989, he was the head of a research laboratory at Sądeckie Zakłady Elektro-Węglowe (SZEW). In 1980, he co-founded and served as a Chairman of the Catholic Inteligentsia Club (KIK) in Nowy Sacz. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Founders Lounge and the chairman of the Council of Organizers of the Business Center Club. In the years from 1989 to 1993, served as the Senator of the first and second terms of the Polish Parliament. In 1990, he founded and subsequently served as the President of the Nowy Sacz – Podhale Chamber of Commerce. In the years from 1993 to 1997, member of the Executive Committee of the National Chamber of Commerce. In the years from 1997 to 2000, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Non-public Universities. In the years from 1995 to 1999 and from 2002 to 2005, a member of the Board of the Management Education Association FORUM. In the years 1998 – 1999, a member of the National Council for National Reform. From 1998 to 2001, a member of the National Committee for European Integration. Since 1999, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. Since 2007, a member of the Supervisory Board of PEKAO S.A. and a member of the Main Panel in the Foresight National Program.

He was the founder and in the years from 1992 to 2007 served as Rector of Wyższa Szkoła Biznesu - National-Louis University in Nowy Sącz, and since 1996, a founder and Rector of Wyższa Szkoła Biznesu in Tarnów. Since January 14, 2008, he has been a founder and President of Wyższa Szkoła Biznesu - National Louis University with a registered office in Nowy Sącz.

He has written two books, namely: „Społeczeństwo wiedzy szansa dla Polski [Information Society a Chance for Poland]”, Kraków: Znak, 2004 and “Rediscovering Higher Education in Europe”, Bucharest: UNESCO-CEPES, 2004,; has edited four books and co-authored 35 joint publications; moreover, he has authored more than 40 research papers on structure of graphite, manufacturing technology for carbon and graphite materials as well as more than 60 publications devoted to the development of higher education, management and transformation of the educational system and regional development in Poland.


Awards and recognition:
  • Award of Pol-Cul - the Polish-Australian Foundation for establishing WSB-NLU in Nowy Sącz in 1995;
  • The Zygmunt Szeliga Award for supporting economic development granted by Polityka weekly in 1996;
  • “The Silver Thaler” Award in the category of the Personality of the Year, granted by the Nowy Sącz – Podhale Chamber of Commerce in 1996;
  • “The Cracow Ducat” Award from Cracow’s Chamber of Commerce in the category : Founder of Entrepreneurship in 1999;
  • “Pro Publico Bono” Award for WSB-NLU which was recognized as the Best Civic Initiative of the First Decade in the Third Republic of Poland, in 1999;
  • The Man of 1999 - award granted by „Życie”
  • The Award granted by the Kronnenberg Foundation for entrepreneurial contribution to social development for 2000;
  • Honorary doctorate granted by National-Louis University, Chicago, USA;
  • Awarded with Krzyż Rycerski Odrodzenia Polski [the Knight’s Cross of Poland’s Revival] and the Medal of National Education;
  • Awarded ‘Kisiel’s Award” granted by „Wprost” weekly for 2002;
  • Winner of the first Polish competition for the Entrepreneur of the Year in 2003;
  • A Freeman of the City of Nowy Sącz – 2006;
  • Winner of the Striding Man in the competition Keep Walking Award – 2006;
  • The Józef Dietl Award – 2008.
  • The price in category Strategy and Development for the best article in Polish published by Harvard Business Review Polska.
